Nitrile (NBR) Rubber Sheet

International Seal supplies NBR rubber sheet, also known as nitrile rubber sheet, for industrial sealing, gasketing and engineering applications where resistance to oils, fuels and greases is required. NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber) combines good mechanical properties with excellent resistance to petroleum-based oils and lubricants, making it one of the most widely used elastomers for industrial sealing applications. Nitrile sheet can be used for flat gaskets, sealing strips, washers, protective components and general-purpose rubber parts.

Our NBR sheets are available in 24″ × 24″ sheet sizes across a range of thicknesses from approximately 1.68 mm to 6.73 mm, providing a practical format for gasket cutting, fabrication, maintenance and production requirements.

International Seal supplies rubber sheet to distributors, OEMs and industrial customers throughout the UK and internationally. For volume requirements, repeat production or specific material specifications, contact our team with the required thickness, quantity and application.

NBR Rubber Sheet Properties

Nitrile rubber provides a balanced set of properties suited to many industrial environments.

Oil & Grease Resistance

One of the primary advantages of NBR is its resistance to mineral oils, lubricating oils, greases and many petroleum-based fluids. This makes nitrile rubber sheet particularly suitable for sealing components used around machinery, hydraulic equipment, automotive systems and industrial processing equipment.

Fuel Resistance

Suitable NBR compounds provide good resistance to many hydrocarbon fuels and are commonly specified for fuel-handling and automotive sealing applications. Compatibility should always be checked against the specific fuel or fluid involved, particularly where additives, alternative fuels or elevated temperatures are present.

Mechanical Performance

NBR provides good tensile strength, abrasion resistance and general durability, making it suitable for components exposed to repeated handling, compression and mechanical wear.

Sealing Performance

The elastomeric nature of nitrile allows the sheet to conform to mating surfaces when compressed, making it suitable for cutting into flat gaskets, washers and other sealing profiles.

NBR Sheet for Gaskets & Sealing Components

NBR rubber sheet is particularly well suited to the manufacture of flat rubber gaskets and washers. Sheets can be cut into circular, rectangular or complex profiles depending on the equipment and sealing interface. This makes nitrile sheet suitable for replacement gaskets, maintenance components, prototype requirements and repeat production.

When specifying an NBR gasket, important factors include:

If an existing component is being replaced, a drawing, dimensions or physical sample can normally be used to establish the required profile.

NBR Rubber Sheet Material Selection

Although nitrile is commonly selected for oil-resistant applications, the correct rubber compound should be chosen against the complete operating environment rather than fluid resistance alone. NBR generally provides strong performance in applications involving oils, lubricants, greases and many hydrocarbon-based fluids. However, it is not normally the preferred elastomer where long-term resistance to weathering, ozone or certain aggressive chemicals is the primary requirement.

For these environments, alternative sheet materials such as EPDM, FKM, Silicone or FFKM may provide more suitable performance.International Seal can assist with material selection where the operating media, temperature and application conditions are known.

NBR Rubber Sheet FAQs

Is NBR the same as nitrile rubber?

Yes. NBR stands for Nitrile Butadiene Rubber and is commonly referred to simply as nitrile rubber. Buna-N is another term frequently used for the same elastomer family.

Is NBR rubber sheet oil resistant?

Yes. Resistance to petroleum-based oils and lubricants is one of the main properties of NBR and one of the reasons it is widely used for industrial gaskets and seals. The exact compatibility depends on the NBR formulation, oil type, operating temperature and exposure conditions.

Can NBR rubber sheet be used to make gaskets?

Yes. NBR sheet is widely used to manufacture flat gaskets, washers and sealing components, particularly where resistance to oils and greases is important.

Can you supply NBR sheet for repeat production quantities?

Yes. International Seal works with distributors, OEMs and industrial customers requiring both individual requirements and repeat volume supply.Send us the required thickness, quantity and any relevant material specification for quotation.

What is the difference between NBR and EPDM rubber sheet?

NBR is generally selected where resistance to oils, fuels and greases is important. EPDM is generally better suited to water, steam, weathering and ozone exposure. The correct material depends on the media, temperature and operating environment.

Need a NBR Rubber Sheet?

Send us the sheet thickness, quantity and application requirements and we will confirm availability and provide a competitive quotation. If the sheet will be used to manufacture a gasket or replacement component, you can also send us a drawing, dimensions, existing part number or physical sample.

For applications involving oils, fuels or chemicals, provide the operating media and temperature where possible so that the suitability of the NBR material can be reviewed.
