PTFE Seals & Components
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a chemically inert, non-stick fluoropolymer used in demanding sealing applications where elastomers would be attacked by aggressive chemicals or where FDA compliance is required. International Seal supplies PTFE O-rings, backup rings, lip seals, and custom machined or moulded PTFE components.
PTFE seals are specified in chemical processing, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, and cryogenic applications. PTFE's extremely low coefficient of friction also makes it the material of choice for dynamic sealing applications requiring low breakout force and minimal stick-slip.
FAQ
What is the difference between virgin PTFE and filled PTFE?
Virgin PTFE is chemically pure and suitable for food and pharmaceutical applications. Filled PTFE contains additives such as glass fibre, carbon, or bronze to improve mechanical properties like wear resistance and creep resistance for dynamic applications.
Do PTFE seals require lubrication?
No. PTFE's inherently low friction means it performs well dry, making it ideal for applications where lubricants would cause contamination.
