FKM rubber sheet provides a combination of thermal stability, chemical resistance and sealing performance for demanding industrial environments.
FKM is sometimes referred to as Viton™, a well-known fluoroelastomer trademark. Temperature capability, hardness and chemical compatibility depend on the specific FKM formulation.
FKM Rubber Sheet Properties
High-Temperature Resistance
FKM rubber provides excellent resistance to elevated temperatures compared with many conventional elastomers, making it suitable for demanding sealing environments.
Many standard FKM compounds are capable of continuous service at temperatures around 200°C, although actual limits depend on the grade, media and operating conditions.
Oil & Fuel Resistance
FKM offers excellent resistance to many petroleum-based oils, fuels, greases and lubricants. This makes FKM rubber sheet particularly suitable for gaskets and sealing components used in automotive systems, hydraulic equipment, industrial machinery and fuel-handling applications.
Chemical Resistance
FKM provides good resistance to a wide range of hydrocarbons, oils and industrial chemicals. However, standard FKM compounds are not universally chemical resistant and can be unsuitable for certain ketones, amines, low-molecular-weight esters and other aggressive media. Chemical compatibility should always be checked against the specific operating conditions.
Weathering & Ageing Resistance
FKM offers excellent resistance to ozone, atmospheric ageing and environmental exposure, allowing it to maintain useful sealing properties in many demanding industrial applications.
FKM Sheet for Gaskets & Sealing Components
FKM rubber sheet is particularly suited to manufacturing flat gaskets, washers and sealing components for applications involving elevated temperatures or exposure to compatible oils, fuels and chemicals. Sheets can be cut into circular, rectangular or bespoke profiles to match flange connections, equipment housings and industrial assemblies.
When selecting an FKM gasket, important considerations include:
International Seal can support distributors and OEMs requiring FKM sheet for repeat gasket production, replacement components and industrial sealing applications.
FKM Rubber Sheet FAQs
Is FKM the same as Viton?
FKM is the generic material classification for fluoroelastomers. Viton™ is a registered trademark associated with particular fluoroelastomer products. Not all FKM rubber sheet is Viton-branded material.
Is FKM rubber sheet oil resistant?
Yes. FKM provides excellent resistance to many petroleum-based oils, fuels, greases and lubricants, making it suitable for industrial and automotive sealing applications.
What temperature can FKM rubber sheet withstand?
Many standard FKM formulations are suitable for continuous operation around 200°C, although the precise limit depends on the material grade, operating media and exposure duration.
Is FKM rubber sheet chemically resistant?
FKM provides excellent resistance to many oils, hydrocarbons and industrial chemicals. However, compatibility varies between compounds and must be verified for the specific media and operating temperature.
Can FKM rubber sheet be used for gaskets?
Yes. FKM rubber sheet is commonly used to manufacture flat gaskets, washers and sealing components for demanding industrial applications.
