Tri-Clamp Gaskets

Tri-Clamp Gasket Specifications

Tri-Clamp gaskets are used within hygienic clamp connections commonly found across dairy processing, food & beverage production and pharmaceutical equipment. The gasket sits between two mating ferrules and creates the seal when the clamp is tightened. Correct material selection is important because the gasket may be exposed to the process product, cleaning chemicals, hot water, steam and repeated cleaning or maintenance cycles.

International Seal supplies Tri-Clamp seals and sanitary gaskets for hygienic process pipework used throughout the dairy, pharmaceutical, food & beverage industries. Suitable for BS 4825 Part 3 hygienic clamp connections, our Tri-Clamp gasket range is available in standard sizes from ½" to 12", with a wide choice of elastomer and specialist materials to suit different process media, temperatures and hygiene requirements.

Tri-Clamp & Tri-Clover Gaskets

Tri-Clover is a commonly used industry term for hygienic clamp-style gasket connections. Customers may refer to these seals as Tri-Clamp gaskets, Tri-Clover gaskets, sanitary clamp gaskets or hygienic clamp gaskets.

Materials

Tri-Clamp seals are available in a range of elastomer and specialist materials, allowing the gasket to be selected according to the process media, temperature, cleaning regime and regulatory requirements.

Material Typical Applications
NBR Oils, fats and general-purpose applications
EPDM Water, hot water, steam and hygienic processing
FKM Oils, chemicals and elevated temperatures
Silicone Temperature extremes and hygienic applications
PTFE Broad chemical resistance

The correct sealing material should always be selected against the complete operating conditions. For additional guidance, see our Chemical Compatibility Guide and Elastomer Temperature Range Guide.

Typical Applications

Tri-Clamp gaskets are widely used throughout hygienic processing systems where connections need to provide a reliable seal while remaining easy to dismantle for cleaning, inspection and maintenance.

Their simple clamp connection makes them particularly common across modern food, beverage, dairy and pharmaceutical processing equipment.

Material selection should take account of the product media, cleaning chemicals, operating temperature and any food-contact or regulatory requirements.

Metal Detectable Tri-Clamp Gaskets

Metal detectable Tri-Clamp gaskets are available for food, beverage, dairy and other hygienic processing environments where foreign-body contamination control forms part of the production system.

Detectable compounds incorporate specialist additives designed to improve the ability of metal detection or X-ray inspection equipment to identify fragments of sealing material if a gasket becomes damaged during production. Detectable options are available across selected elastomer grades suitable for common hygienic sealing applications.

Detection performance depends on factors including the compound, fragment size, product being inspected and the sensitivity and configuration of the inspection equipment. Detectable Tri-Clamp seals should therefore be validated under the customer’s actual production conditions.

Tri-Clamp Gasket FAQs

How do I measure a Tri-Clamp gasket?

Measure the outside diameter across the flange face and the inside diameter across the bore, then check both against the dimension table above. Tri-Clamp gaskets are sized by tube outside diameter, so a 1½″ gasket fits 1½″ OD tube rather than 1½″ nominal bore pipe.

What is the difference between a Tri-Clamp gasket and a Tri-Clover gasket?

They describe the same component. Tri-Clover is a brand name that became an industry term; Tri-Clamp, sanitary clamp gasket and hygienic clamp gasket all describe the gasket used in a clamped hygienic union.

What is the difference between a lipped and an unlipped Tri-Clamp gasket?

A lipped gasket has a raised inner lip that locates into the ferrule bore; an unlipped gasket is a flat profile. Both are supplied across our range. Match the profile to the gasket currently fitted, or send us a photograph and we will confirm which you need.

Are BS 4825 and DIN 32676 Tri-Clamp gaskets interchangeable?

No. Both are clamp connection standards but their dimensions differ, so a gasket made to one standard will not seal correctly in the other. Confirm which standard your fittings are built to before ordering.

Do you supply metal detectable Tri-Clamp gaskets?

Yes. Metal and X-ray detectable compounds are available across selected Tri-Clamp profiles. Detection performance depends on the compound, the fragment size, the product being inspected and the inspection equipment, so detectable seals should be validated on your own production line.

Which sizes do you hold in UK stock?

Core Tri-Clamp sizes are held in UK stock for same-day dispatch. Tell us the size, material and quantity and we will confirm stock and lead time the same day.
