DIN 11851 Seals

DIN 11851 is a hygienic threaded union system widely used across dairy processing, food & beverage production and pharmaceutical equipment. The DIN gasket sits between the mating components of the union and creates the sealing interface when the connection is assembled and tightened. Correct material selection is important because the gasket may be exposed to the process product, cleaning chemicals, hot water, steam and repeated cleaning or maintenance cycles.

International Seal supplies DIN 11851 seals for process pipework used throughout the dairy, pharmaceutical, food & beverage industries. Our DIN sealing range is available in standard metric and imperial sizes, with a wide choice of elastomer and specialist materials to suit different process media, temperatures and hygiene requirements.

Materials

DIN 11851 seals are available in a range of elastomer and specialist materials, allowing the gasket to be selected according to the process media, operating temperature, cleaning regime and regulatory requirements.

Material Typical Applications
NBR Oils, fats and general-purpose applications
EPDM Water, hot water, steam and hygienic processing
FKM Oils, chemicals and elevated temperatures

The correct material should always be selected against the complete operating conditions. For additional guidance, see our Chemical Compatibility Guide and Elastomer Temperature Range Guide.

Metal Detectable DIN 11851 Seals

Metal and X-ray detectable DIN 11851 seals are available for food, beverage, dairy and other hygienic processing environments where foreign-body contamination control forms part of the production system.

Detectable compounds incorporate specialist additives designed to improve the ability of metal detection or X-ray inspection equipment to identify fragments of sealing material if a gasket becomes damaged during production. Detectable options are available across selected elastomer grades suitable for hygienic sealing applications.

Detection performance depends on the compound, fragment size, product being inspected and the sensitivity and configuration of the inspection equipment. Detectable DIN seals should therefore be validated under the customer’s actual production conditions.

Typical Applications

DIN 11851 seals are widely used throughout hygienic process systems where threaded unions provide secure connections that can be dismantled for cleaning, inspection and maintenance.

DIN connections are particularly common throughout European food, beverage, dairy and pharmaceutical processing equipment.

Material selection should consider the process product, cleaning media, minimum and maximum temperatures and any food-contact or regulatory requirements.
